Pumpkin Patch

Today we took Wyatt to the pumpkin patch with his Aunt Julie and cousins. We went to this great farm in Everett that has not only a huge selection of pumpkins but offers hayrides, a corn maze, miniature golf and petting zoo to boot. Each of the kids picked out a pumpkin and the boys even selected the tiniest pumpkin they could find for Wyatt. It looked more like a large lime than a pumpkin and I don't think we will try to crave the midget fruit but we all got a kick out of the mini find.

Noah (10), Wyatt's oldest cousin, was the first to find his pumpkin and of course it was the biggest of the bunch. Per family tradition, he had to be able to carry it himself so he struggled through the 10-foot walk to the nearest wheelbarrow. These are the revised family-friendly rules that have relaxed since Ross' day as a kid when he had to be able to carry the pumpkin to the car.

Elijah (8) was smart enough to get one of the smallest pumpkins in the patch since he hates to scrape out the seeds before carving. He figured the smaller the gourd, the faster he'd be carving his masterpiece. These kids are SMART!!

After we paid for the pumpkins we headed to the snack shack where the kids loaded up on carmel apples, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and baked potatoes. We then took a walk through the petting zoo which had pigs, sheep, roosters, and a donkey before packing it in for the day.

We took a quick side trip to Ross' mom's house before we headed home and she introduced Wyatt to his first dog, Sophie. After some barking (Sophie) and a few tears (Wyatt) the two seemed to get along just fine.

It is so neat to witness all of his "firsts". His first time seeing a hairy creature, his first time hearing a dog bark and his first time smelling dog breath. Okay, some "firsts" are more pleasant than others but they are all special to us.
