We have been taking advantage of this great spring weather the last few days and have been getting out of the house as a family. We took the kids up to Rattlesnake Lake on Friday for a hike and it was a lot of fun. The kids are finally getting old enough that we can go on these short family trips without too much difficulty. I carried Sam in a backpack, while Wyatt ran ahead of us exploring every detail of the forest.

Wyatt was content with collecting walking sticks and throwing rocks and we quickly realized there was no way we were going to complete the 4 mile hike with Wyatt stopping every few feet to examine something that caught his eye. We watched a woodpecker hard at work looking for bugs for a while and then Wyatt and Ross explored a "cave", which was more like a hole dug out on the base of a boulder. It reminded Wyatt of a Curious George episode where George finds bunnies in a cave and I think he thought he was going to make his own bunny discovery.

Ross and Wyatt climbed boulders and Wyatt made lot of friends along the trail, saying hi to many of the people passing us and then yelling "Stop man," or "Chase man," as we were left behind by other hikers that hadn't brought along a two-year old companion.

Sam didn't make a peep the entire walk and was leaning so far to the right or left to see around my head and get a glimpse of his big brother that he gave me a backache in no time. Oh well, holding the kids is the best kind of weight training.

We followed up the hike with a family bike ride yesterday and I hooked the kiddie trailer up behind my bike. The boys enjoyed their Goldfish snack before Sam fell asleep on Wyatt's shoulder (like usual). Wyatt makes a great pillow and does his best to hold still while little brother snoozes.
