The local Mom's Club I belong to organized a tour of the Snoqualmie Fire Station today and the kids had a blast. The firefighters were very nice and gave the 20 of us a detailed tour of the fire house and had a mini class for the kids talking about what to do if you find matches or your clothes catch on fire or if your smoke alarm goes off. I could tell the Lieutenant really dumbed it down for his audience of 2-3 year olds but it was still over my boys' heads and really they just wanted to see the fire engines.
They don't look bored, do they?

Once we finally made our way into the ap-bay a firefighter put on all of his gear to show the kids what he may look like if he was in their home during a fire.
Wyatt: Hmm, this is really great Mr. Fireman...

Wyatt: But did you see this cool grate on the floor that I can walk on?

Then they let the kids loose and let them climb and crawl all over everything.

This worked out well since Wyatt has the run of the place at dad's fire house and I was worried there might be a look and don't touch policy here.

Even Sammy got in on the action with this cool antique engine.

Despite the laid back attitudes of the Snoqualmie firefighters, we were still caught being "that family" more than a few times as I struggled to reign Wyatt in (a.k.a "No, you can't climb on top of the fire truck roof," and "No, you can't push every single button in the ambulance"). Let's just say everyone knew Wyatt's name by the time the event was over.
He had me sweating by the time we headed for home 50 minutes later from chasing him around and around the fire engines but overall it was a fun event. Lord help me when Sam is able to run (probably in the opposite direction) next year when we do this activity again.
